Students in the Advanced Studio will look at the Anniviers valley (Valais) to reimagine Switzerland's future energy landscapes in relation to the multiple temporal and spatial layers, material flows, and socioecological dynamics under a rapidly changing climate.
Introduction to the concepts of nuclear and particle physics.
Introduction to Solid State Physics
Einführung in die Festkörperphysik
The course provides an introduction to solid state physics, covering several topics that are later discussed in more detail in other more specialized lectures. The central topics are: solids and their lattice structures; interatomic bindings; lattice dynamics, electronic properties of insulators, metals, semiconductors, transport properties, and magnetism.

Introduction to macromolecular chemistry
Materialwissenschaften
The course comprises basic definitions, types of polyreactions, constitution of homo- and copolymers, networks, configurative and conformative aspects, contour length, coil formation, mobility, glass temperature, rubber elasticity, molecular weight distribution, energetics of polyreactions, and examples for polyreactions.
This course gives an introduction into the mathematical theory of inverse problems, techniques for their regularization and numerical methods to solve them. It covers(i) linear ill-posed operator equations, (ii) impedance tomography (iii) inverse acoustic scattering.

Learning from Bologna
Entwurf III: Lernen von Bologna (E.Christ/Ch.Gantenbein)
The first semester begins with a field trip to Bologna. Collectively we develop a survey of selected examples through inspired drawings. During the second half of the semester we engage with the project of student accommodation. The selected case studies become the objects of intervention: different strategies of adaptive reuse are explored and confronted with the condition of the city at large.
Mathematical treatment of optimization techniques for linear and combinatorial optimization problems.
MAS Master's Thesis
MAS Master-Arbeit
The Master thesis is an independent scientific work.
The second semester of the MAS Housing is completely dedicated to writing a personal thesis. Under the guidance of the program coordinator and eventually an additional reader, students receive regular feedback to academically develop a topic of their choosing.

This thesis is part of the MAS-IP Program, which is divided into the following parts: 1) Introduction to law and basic IP issues; 2) Patent law; 3) Copyrights, trademarks, industrial design and competition law; 4) IP in computer sciences and life sciences; 5) Managing, financing, licensing and litigating IP.
MAS Thesis
MAS-Abschlussarbeit
Individual thesis as proof of acquired expertise in independent scientific work and the ability to think and to argue in a interdisciplinary way; subject arbitrary.
Thesis in Building Process Leadership
Thesis in Gesamtprojektleitung Bau
In the fourth semester, the MAS thesis is to be finished by the students by answering their research questions. In detail, they have present their MAS thesis to an audience. The main tasks are critical thinking and self monitoring. The academic supervision itsfelf concentrates on knowledge transfer, the editor and proof reading.
