The tourism industry is important economic sector in Switzerland to activate the rural area for exchange between local and global. A role of architecture is creating local identity. We engage with the question of tourism architecture in Interlaken and Grindelwald with historical perspective to use image through actor-network drawing for arguments and critics in the future local context.

In this seminar we will, on the one hand, deal with the central strategies in the context of the climate crisis and get to know them by reading theoretical key texts. On the other hand, we will analyze concrete architectural case studies from Europe and Japan on this basis and thus examine these as well as the theoretical strategies for their potentials.

The Focus Work at the Chair of Architectural Behaviorology is conducted either as (A) a free-topic study proposed by students and defined in consultation with the professor, or as (B) a topic-based option, in which students work on a predefined theme assigned by the chair. Both formats aim to foster independent inquiry and design-oriented research within the field.
What is the relationship between mental maps, plans and places? On the one hand, the built environment can be represented as a map, an instrument that helps us orient in space but also changes our mental image of it. On the other hand, maps allow us to represent mental states. In this reading seminar, we explore how maps mediate the relationship between the built environment and the self.

Lecture "Construction III":The overall topic of the lecture series is “Construction – Elements of Architecture”. The lecture series gives the students an insight into different construction and design methods. The lectures are held by four different professorships in a block of 5 lectures in a row and showcasing their individual approach on design and architecture in general.
Learning from Bologna
Entwurf III: Lernen von Bologna (E.Christ/Ch.Gantenbein)
The first semester begins with a field trip to Bologna. Collectively we develop a survey of selected examples through inspired drawings. During the second half of the semester we engage with the project of student accommodation. The selected case studies become the objects of intervention: different strategies of adaptive reuse are explored and confronted with the condition of the city at large.
