After we developed strategies for the municipality of Scuol in the Lower Engadine in spring 2019, we are now deepening this knowledge with the help of current construction tasks and building sites. In doing so, we are focusing on the traditional building culture and the handling of the historical substance, but also the sustainability of the historical and new structures are of great importance.

The city of Antwerp is currently developing the master plan for the left bank of the Scheldt. We take this as an opportunity to engage with the site in discourse with the city administration and specialists. We want to contribute to the development of the masterplan with an analytical design process.

We develop exemplary hybrid structures that preserve our finite resources and research in what way new architectonical spaces and adequate densities can arise. The powerful structures of production halls and storehouses of a former cement plant in Brunnen become part of a future district.

A new awareness of our limited resources and their use are bringing low-carbon materials and the permanent or renewed use of components back to the fore. We want to take the principle of planning circular buildings to extremes, understand / design buildings as temporary structures and make a contribution to energy generation / urban greening / noise reduction.

Lecture "Construction III":The overall topic of the lecture series is “Construction – Elements of Architecture”. The lecture series gives the students an insight into different construction and design methods. The lectures are held by four different professorships in a block of 5 lectures in a row and showcasing their individual approach on design and architecture in general.

The first semester begins with a field trip to Bologna. Collectively we develop a survey of selected examples through inspired drawings. During the second half of the semester we engage with the project of student accommodation. The selected case studies become the objects of intervention: different strategies of adaptive reuse are explored and confronted with the condition of the city at large.

A rapidly changing world in the wake of climate change needs environmentally conscious, sustainable design and construction more than ever before. Studio Foundations addresses the increasing complexity with a collective of eight professors (chairs).

The lecture series of the Institute of Design and Architecture - in the FS21 provides students with an overview of the various positions of the teachers within the IEA (Institute Design in Architecture).
