Given the recent events which saw the town of Blatten in the Lötschental valley destroyed by a landslide, the studio aims to enquire on the discussions regarding its re-birth. Students will question the immediate response to rebuilding. If so, Why? How and where? Faced with the topics of climate threat and heritage, students will develop concrete scenarios for the reconstruction of Blatten.

While these communities primarily exist online, many also seek physical spaces to meet. The studio explores online culture sharing and how to design physical spaces that represent these communities and give them a presence in the city of Zurich.

The lecture series gives the students an insight into different construction and design methods. The lectures are held by four different professorships in a block of 5 lectures in a row and showcasing their individual approach on design and architecture in general.

The first semester begins with a field trip to Bologna. Collectively we develop a survey of selected examples through inspired drawings. During the second half of the semester we engage with the project of student accommodation. The selected case studies become the objects of intervention: different strategies of adaptive reuse are explored and confronted with the condition of the city at large.
