Last Updated: 2026-02-05 14:55:36

Objective

This lecture prepares the students for mixed analog-digital (MAD) IC design by providing a wide overview over analogue filters and amplifiers. The lecture is suitable for both analogue and digital IC designers. The exam takes account of the different interests of the two groups.

Content

The theory and CMOS implementation of active Filters is discussed in detail using the example of Gm-C filters. A 1xDVD read channel filter is designed in a computer exercise. The theory of active filters is taken up again by discussing single-amplifier biquadratic filters. Theory and implementation of opamps, current conveyors, and inductor simulators follow. Finally, an introduction to switched-capacitor filters and circuits is given. This forms the basis for the discussion of sigma-delta A/D and D/A converters, which are portrayed as MAD filters in this lecture
