Abstract
Introduction to the water supply, excreta, wastewater and solid waste disposal in developing countries. Connections between these processes and health, resource conservation as well as environmental protection. Methods for the combination of the food supply with the waste disposal. New concepts and approaches that aim at preventing disease as well as protecting and conserving resources.
Objective
Students receive an introduction to the water supply, excreta, waste water and solid waste disposal in developing countries. They understand the connections between the waste disposal, health, resource conservation and environmental protection. Besides they learn, how water supply, wastewater and solid waste disposal, and urbane agriculture can be combined, in order to achieve the development policy goals in terms of disease prevention, resource conservation, and environmental protection.

Overview of the health situation, water supply, and liquid and solid waste disposal in developing countries. Development policy of Switzerland. Technical and scientific fundamentals of water supply, sanitation and solid waste management. Material flows in the water supply, waste disposal and urban agriculture. Connection between excreta disposal and health. New concepts and approaches for a sustainable water supply and waste disposal in developing countries.
