The International Protection of Minorities in Conceptual, Theoretical and Empirical Perspective
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:24:20
Abstract
This seminar elaborates central conceptual issues regarding minority protection and introduces different IR theories available to explain the existence, development, content and effectiveness of international minority protection regimes. These conceptual and theoretical insights are then applied to case studies of international organizations concerned with minority protection.
Objective
The seminar aims to enable students to apply the conceptual frameworks and theoretical explanations discussed in the first two parts of the seminar to the empirical case studies in the third section. It thereby offers an interdisciplinary perspective (political science, law, political philosophy) and introduces into the combination of theoretical and empirical research.
