Abstract

Introduction to microbial metabolism. Principles of bacterial carbon metabolism and enegy production. Degradation of carbon sources in aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. Chemolithotrophy. Metabolism of sulfur and nitrogen.

Objective

Knowledge of the basics of microbial metabolism, and understanding of functional principles of microbial life. A basis for understanding microbial processes that are relevant in the environment as well as in medicine and biotechnology.

Content

Principles of metabolism. Respiratory chain. ATP synthesis. Anaerobic metabolism. Anearobic respiration. Fermentation. Chemolithotroph metabolism. Metabolism of sulfur and nitrogen.
