Abstract

Structure of the SM in view of symmetries and possible anomalies, chiral perturbation theory based on the Nambu-Goldstone theorem. Role of electroweak and flavour precision data in the search for new physics, in particular the concept of S, T, and U parameters and of minimal flavour violation. Little hierarchy and flavour problems of new physics. Various approaches to new physics beyond the SM.

Content

We will start with the structure of the standard model (SM) in view of symmetries and possible anomalies, including a brief introduction to chiral perturbation theory based on the Nambu-Goldstone theorem. We will discuss the role of electroweak and flavour precision data in the search for new physics, in particular the concept of S, T, and U parameters and of minimal flavour violation. Starting from the so-called little hierarchy and flavour problems of new physics, we will analyse various approaches to new physics beyond the standard model.
