Abstract
The repertoire of stylistic elements, which still dominates the appearance of the European cities, has been valid and advanced for centuries – for this reason its detailed understanding is essential for the responsible treatment of historical facades.
Objective
The course will give a basic review about the classical stylistic elements of the European architecture and their roots, which partly hearken back to Greek and Roman antiquity. Selected buildings and facades of any period will be analysed and interpreted in terms of their outside appearance. Variations und developments, tradition and research knowledge will be taught through lectures and exercises.
