Abstract

The course is intended for students of the University and the ETH Zürich who have already attained level C1 of the European Common Frame of Reference. Complying with this requirement is most important, as we understand participants can participate in complex conversations, understand TV news, as well as read and write texts about contemporary issues.

Objective

Debating is an important exercise in the university environment. However, sometimes it is not well or sufficiently trained, due to lack of tools or opportunities. The course wants to provide students with some of these useful material. We want him/her to think about some tricks and methods aimed to better articulate his/her speech in the defense of ideas.

Content

We will develop the course spirally-wise, meaning we will debate from the first session, first spontaneously and later we will be presenting new methodological elements in each session, which participants will integrate into their personal and group plan. We will end with a plenum debate. Topics include, for example, fair trade, gender problems, etc.
