Abstract

Selected topics: Field measurements, Grouting and artificial ground freezing, tunneling in water bearing ground.Exercises: Conceptual solution of complex tunnelling problems.

Objective

Deepen the knowledge on selected topics of tunneling. Exercises conceptual solutions of complex problems.

Content

Field measurements: Principles, monitoring layout, applications, interpretation. Grouting and artificial ground freezing: Fundamentals, design and analysis. Stability and deformations of tunnels in water bearing ground: Continuummechanical fundamentals, mathematical treatment, applications. Exercising conceptual solution of complex tunnelling problems based upon discussion of current tunnel cases with particularly demanding problems in samll groups.
