Basics in Biochemistry and Environmental Microbiology
Grundlagen der Biochemie und Umwelt-Mikrobiologie
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:23:50
Abstract
Introduction to basic biochemistry, to the most important metabolic reactions, and to environmental microbiology and hygiene
Objective
Based on the introductory biologgy and chemistry courses, more detailed biochemical knowledge about enzymology, membrane biochemistry, central and energy metabolism, as well as basics in environmental microbiology will be presented. Moreover, an introduction to drinking water and wastewater microbiology will be imparted.
Content
Program: Consolidation of knowledge about macromolecules: proteins, polysaccharides, and DNA Enzymology: Enzyme mechanisms, enzyme kinetics, enzyme regulation Membrane biochemistry and transport through membranes Consolidation of knowledge about metabolism: glycolysis, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, and fatty acid metabolism Drinking water and wastewater microbiology: relevant pathogens, detection methods, drinking water purification, desinfection, AOC, biofilms, wastewater treatment
Resources
Lecture Notes
Für den biochemischen Teil wird als Skript das Biochemiebuch von Lubert Stryer empfohlen.
