Abstract

Introduction to the history and theory of gardens and landscape. Analysis of the design of historical gardens and landscapes within their cultural background.

Objective

The course covers the basic history and theory of gardens and landscape from its beginnings up until the 20th century. The course aims to raise awareness of a changing perception of nature and landscape.

Content

The lecture series on “History and Theory of Garden Design and Landscape Architecture” deals with the historical development of designed nature, from the beginnings of cultural landscapes and gardens to 20th century landscape architecture. In the analysis of each era, the focus is on the spatial and cultural relationship between the garden, the city and the landscape, as well as the changing perceptions of nature and its representation.
