Abstract

The Policy Design seminar teaches how to design good rules and policies in a variety of areas: growth policy, rules for democracy, global public goods and climate policy, banking regulation and public debt reduction. The main tools are: game theory, general equilibrium theory, mechanism theory, contract theory, collective decision theory and dynamic macroeconomics.

Objective

In this seminar, students learn how to design good rules and policies in a variety of areas: Growth policy, rules for democracy, global public goods and climate policy, banking regulation and public debt reduction. We introduce and use advanced tools and theories that require thorough knowledge of basic economic concepts. The main tools are: game theory, general equilibrium theory, mechanism theory, contract theory, collective decision theory and dynamic macroeconomics. Every student is expected to write a seminar thesis on a policy design problem.
