Die Vorlesung richtet sich an Diplomandinnen und Diplomanden sowie an Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden, hauptsächlich der Physik, und vermittelt alle Kenntnisse für einen erfolgreichen Umgang mit Unix Rechnersystemen, wie sie im Rahmen einer Diplom- oder Dissertationsarbeit benötigt werden. Die Vorlesung ist in folgende Einheiten gegliedert: Teil I Einführung: Betriebssystem; Desktop und Window Systems; Unix Befehle; Teil II Unix Shell: c und tc Shell; Shell Programmierung; Teil III Werkzeuge: Editoren; Text- und Dokumentenverarbeitung; Drucken; Programmiersprachen und Compiler; Archivierung von Daten; Kommunikation, Netzwerke und Multimedia.
