Abstract
Basic concepts in ecology. Biological structures and functions in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
Objective
Basic knowledge on biological structures and functions in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Knowledge on biological, chemical and physical interactions in natural habitats.
Content
Principles of ecology. Physical and chemical factors which determine structures and functions of ecosystems. Photosynthesis, food-chains and mineralization. Interactions based on exchanges of matter, energy and information. Transport, transformation and effects of pollutants in ecosystems. Ecological stability, succession, ecological niches. Landscape development and conservation. Conservation aspects: Red lists - Blue lists; Island theory. Examples of biological engineering.
