Abstract

The course is a basis for those engineers which intend to develop high power apparatus or who intend to develop secondary equipment based on information technology tools.

Objective

Key elements of a modern electric power system are the so called primary components, carrying high current and high voltage, and the secondary control system, which is dominated by modern information technology tools. For integrated solutions the skills for an engineer have to cover both, the primary and the secondary system. Therefore, the goal of the course is to introduce to the students the physical phenomena and the key principles of the primary components. The course is a basis for those engineers which intend to develop high power apparatus or who intend to develop secondary equipment based on information technology tools.

Content

Basic physical aspects when conducting high current and high voltage for distribution and transmission of electric power Emerging technology in distribution and transmission systems (super conductivity, fault current limitation, energy storage, HVDC) electromagnetic compatibility for system and personnel intelligence of power system equipment (control, model based diagnosis) decentralised, renewable energy sources project work excursion to a utility and to a manufacturer
