Wearable Systems I
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:24:08
Abstract
Basic methods for the fusion of sensor signals analysis with emphasis on context recognition of mobile communication systems (Wearable Computer). Sensor signal processing, Data Fusion, Segmentation, Bayes Decision Theory, Dempster-Shafer Theory, Decision Tress, kNN-Methods, Support Vector Machine and Hidden Markov Models are the main topics following the schedule of a design project.
Objective
Future mobile systems will be integrated as personal and cooperative assistants in our daily outfit. Concepts and methods of wearable mobile systems will be elaborated and discussed. Context recognition - where is the user and what are the current needs - is the main focus of the course. Using MatLab the participants implement and verify the discussed methods.
Content
The next generation of mobile communication systems consists of textile motherboards, heterogeneous computer and communication architectures, sensors for context aware system control (see www.wearable.ethz.ch ). The main topics of the course include Sensor nets, senors signal processing, data fusion, spectral analysis, segmentation, Bayes Decision Theory, Dempster-Shafer-Theory, Decision Tress, kNN-Methods, Support Vector Machine and Hidden Markov Models The exercises show concrete design problems like motion and activity detection, distributed sensors. Presentations of the PhD students and the visit at the Wearable Computing Lab introduce in current research topics and international research projects. Language: german/english
