Abstract

This lecture gives an overview of the cosmological systems from antiquity to the 20th century. Special attention will be given to the process of naturalisation of hiearchical world models in the 17th century.

The lecture gives an overview of the cosmological systems from antiquity to the 20th century. Special attention will be given to the process of naturalisation of hiearchical world models in the 17th century.

Content

The world models of the presocratics, Plato, and the christian cosmologies are discussed as well as Kopernikus, Kepler, Galilei and Newton. Finally Einstein and his consequences are considered.
