Abstract
The lecture explains the basics of building technologies (specials themes out of physics and technical sciences) adapted to the needs of architects. The basic knowlege leeds to the integral design of buildings, integrating formal and technical aspects.
Content
An introduction to building installations, including air conditioning, electricity supplies, lighting is presented. The basics will be dealt with through the stages of concept, pre-design, and design. Criteria for calculating and evaluating building systems and their components will be explored. The interrelationship between a building’s functional requirements and the technology available for its realisation, will be discussed. Students also learn how to estimate the necessary requirements for the technical installations such as shafts and spaces in a building. The pros and cons of centralized or decentralized supply systems will be discussed. Other topics include: coordination and planning of the construction sequences: pre-design through design; less technology through correct design; facades; storage construction. Practical examples of ‘real life’ building projects will be viewed and discussed.
