Livestock Breeding and Genomics II
Züchtungslehre II
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:23:39
Abstract
The course provides methods to use molecular genetics information in livestock breeding. First, linkage disequilibrium, its measurement and applications are introduced. QTL mapping, marker assisted selection and estimation of breeding values as well as an introduction to genomic selection are further topics. The theory is applied in assignments.
Objective
The students are able to interpret and apply linkage disequilibrium. They know the methods to detect and quantify QTLs and to estimate marker assisted breeding values. They are able to discuss the principle of genomic selection.
