Abstract
The aims of this course are: 1. To introduce the basic concepts of ecosystem processes, and demonstrate that these apply to both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems; 2. To illustrate the methods used to investigate ecosystem processes; 3. To show how the ecosystem concept can be applied at a range of spatial scales; 4. To emphasise how human activities are modifying ecosystem processes.
Objective
1. To introduce the basic concepts of ecosystem processes, and demonstrate that these apply to both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems 2. To illustrate the methods used to investigate ecosystem processes (including modelling approaches) 3. To show how the ecosystem concept can be applied at a range of spatial scales 4. To emphasise how human activities are modifying ecosystem processes and discuss the conditions required for the sustainable exploitation of ecosystems
