Abstract
Introduction to basic biochemistry, to the most important metabolic reactions, and to the biochemistry of secundary plant metabolites.
Objective
Based on the biology courses in the 1. and 2. semester, in which the biological macromolecules were introduced, more detailed biochemical knowledge about enzymology, membrane biochemistry, central metabolism, and secondary plant metabolites willbe presented
Content
Program Part A: Basic Biochemistry Detailed knowledge about macromolecules: proteins (protein modifications, protein domains, principles of protein purification), polysaccharides Enzymology: Enzyme mechanisms, enzyme kinetics, enzyme regulation (proenzyme/enzyme, allosteric regualtion, phosphorylations, enzyme inhibition) Membrane biochemistry and transport through membranes Part B: Metabolism Glycolysis, gluconeogenesis The citric acid cycle Oxidative phosphorylation Fatty acid metabolism Part C:Biochemistry of secundary plant metabolites Structure, biosynthesis, function, and application of secundary plant metabolites (polysaccharides, lignin, flavonoides, terpenoides, alkaloides)
Resources
Lecture Notes
Für Teil A und B wird als Skript das Biochemiebuch von Lubert Stryer verwendet.Für Teil C besteht das Skript aus Kap. 16 - 18 des Lehrbuchs "Pflanzenbiochemie" von H. W. Heldt.
Literature
Lubert Stryer, Biochemie, 5. Auflage, Spektrum Akademischer Verlag, Heidelberg (2003) Die Studierenden können selbstverständlich auch die englische Ausgabe verwenden. Hans W. Heldt, Pflanzenbiochemie, 3. Aufl., Spektrum Akademischer Verlag, Heidelberg (2003)
