Simulations for Solid State Physics
Vertiefung in die Festkörperphysik durch Simulationen
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:29:37
Abstract
In depth study of important concepts in solid state physics, with the help of pre-programmedsimulations based on the book by N. W. Ashcroft and D. Mermin.
Objective
Deeper understanding of phenomena and concepts introduced in the basic lecture on solid state physics through self-learning, with (as little as possible) support bythe lecturer.
Content
Choice of 3 out of the following 14 subjects: Crystal Structure and X-ray diffraction Diffraction in perfect and imperfect crystals Lattice dynamics in 1 dimension Lattice dynamics and heat capacity Dynamics of the classical free electron gas Dynamics of quantum free electrons Energy bands and states Dynamics of a single band electron Transport in a partially full electron band Carrier densities in semiconductors Band bending in semiconductors Ising Model and ferromagnetism Antiferromagnetism and magnetic domains Dislocations and plastic flow
