Abstract
This advanced, research-oriented seminar discusses a variety of topics in international political economy, such as trade and monetary policy preferences, credibility-enhancing institutions, distributional issues in a globalized economy and the recent debate about outsourcing and immigration.
Objective
The aim of the seminar is to enable students to understand and to critically evaluate arguments and empirical results presented in international political economy research.
Content
This advanced, research-oriented seminar discusses a variety of topics in international political economy, such as trade and monetary policy preferences, credibility-enhancing institutions, distributional issues in a globalized economy and the recent debate about outsourcing and immigration. This year, emphasis is on institutional consequences on economic outcomes and the quality of government. The course focuses primarily on research that has recently been published in leading scholarly journals. Students are required to comment on one scholarly article, to write two short research papers, and to discuss the research papers of their fellow students in class.
