Abstract

Description of open quantum systems using quantum trajectories. Cascaded quantum systems. Decoherence and quantum measurements. Elements of single quantum dot spectroscopy: interaction effects. Spin-reservoir coupling.

Objective

This course covers basic concepts in mesoscopic quantum optics and builds up on the material covered in Quantum Optics course which will be taught in HS 2007. The specific topics that will be discussed include emitter-field interaction in the electric-dipole limit, spontaneous emission, density operator and the optical Bloch equations, quantum optical phenomena in quantum dots (photon antibunching, cavity-QED) and confined spin dynamics.
