Business Aspects of the Internet of Things
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:29:38
Abstract
The Internet of Things describes the evolution from a network linking digital information to a network relating digital information to real world physical items. As a result, the real world and the Internet jointly represent the same reality. What is the vision? Which technology and infrastructure is needed? What are the driving business applications?
Objective
The participants of this seminar will study the fundamental technologies needed to realize this technical vision. In addition to that, current and future business scenarios will be discussed in order to distinguish between realistic, critical, utopian and nightmarish scenarios of an Internet of things. The first sessions will be dedicated to topics on current technology, concepts and implementations of RFID. In the later sessions participants will discuss and evaluate various business cases. Afterwards, all participants who are interested in gaining even more knowledge of Internet of Things topics will be invited to develop own projects as subsequent Semester/Bachelor/Master Theses under the supervision of researchers of IM.
