Information Architecture: Crowd Simulation and Massive Software
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:30:03
Abstract
The Sensitive Tapestry - Merging Information Space and Physical Architecture'The Sensitive Tapestry' adapts its appearance harmoniously like a chameleon to its surroundings and thus follows the essential principals of Information Architecture.
Objective
Merging physical architecture and digital information allows a direct and intuitive communication between use, space and infrastructure. The aim of the course is to unveil the sensual perception in our architectural space. This sensuality depends on visible but also invisible components of architecture: the dimensions of a room and its content, its building material, as well as the use of the building, the people, their traditions and needs, how they use the space and move in it. Students should be equipped with a sense for specific use, ideas and implementation of technical operating systems. They should be able to design and develop applications which are expanded by architecture in order for them to react through its use and users.
Content
For the exercise, the course will incorporate the digital component to the physical space: ‘The Sensitive Tapestry’. Warmth + cold, stimulus + calmness, openness + protection, light + shade will influence the appearance of ‘The Sensitive Tapestry’. The computer will be used in order to enlarge buildings but also as a communicator between architects and other users. This will be done in groups through practical short projects (1 hour lecture, 3 hours Students should be equipped with a sense for specific use, ideas and implementation of technical operating systems. They should be able to design and develop applications which are expanded by architecture in order for them to react through its use and users. Results and innovative projects can be used for an elective thesis. 'The Sensitive Tapestry' is based on results of the latest research in thermography. These datasets will be reinterpreted and transformed with 'Processing' ( http://www.processing.org ) and illustrated in a surprisingly different context in the physical space.
