Actual Problems in Bioengineering

Abstract

The class is dedicated to elucidate recent topics in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and molecular Medicine. The main topics are bone- cartilage and nerve- regeneration; in addition angiogenesis is a key issue. Different research strategies and techniques are discussed and evaluated during the class.

Objective

The class offers the possibility to enjoy a variety of research areas in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and molecular Medicine. It gives insight into research concepts and technical aspects that are discussed thoroughly. The aim of the class is to enable graduate students to develop their own research plans and strategies, and to learn to think about their own projects in a problem oriented manner. Moreover the participants are encouraged to discuss topics that are presented by their co-workers. By doing so, this discussion should provide a forum where hands-on research problems are solved.

Content

This class is dedicated to Masters- and PhD students with biomedical-, biological- and engineering backgrounds. Each student presents about a ‘burning’ topic in Bioengineering, Biomaterials or in molecular Medicine that is related to bone- cartilage or nerve-regeneration or that deals with angiogenesis. All participants of the class contribute by oral presentations and, because of their heterogeneous background, enable an interdisciplinary discussion in the presented research area.
