Theory of Architecture: Mimesis - On the Creativity of Reproduction
Architekturtheorie: Mimesis - Die Kreativität der Nachahmung
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:30:04
Abstract
Mimesis
Objective
Architecture theory is the experiment to explicate interdisciplinary approaches and methods, which connect the products of (predominantly architectural) design with contemporary culture. The topics are not looked at in a chronological order, and the interpretation is more relevant than their temporal localization. The participants are constantly encouraged to transgress the boarders between the regimes of culture and to propose associations with literature, film, music and art. The topics of the seminar series (e.g. “travel”, “eating”, “identity”, “atmospheres” or “the beautiful”) are chosen in such a way to allow various ways of contextualization. Student presentations are interwoven into the structure of the individual sessions with input lectures of the faculty. Starting from relevant texts and case studies from architecture, urbanism and art we search for a critical assessment of methods and hypothesis. Students are asked to express and frame a personal point of view by presenting analytic readings of the texts and case studies.
