Abstract

Introduction into a variety of communication fields using mainly examples from the pharmaceutical industry. Topics include cultural specificities, languages, social competence, personality, emotions, conflict management, negotiation tools.

Objective

Student understands and applies some basic principles of communication. The student is prepared for her / his first career steps in the pharmaceutical industry. - Student is able to apply communication and presentation skills. - Student is self-reflecting and aware about the importance of: (i) Cultural specificities, languages; (ii) Social competence and personality. - Student is self-reflecting on difficult situations and looking pro-actively to overcome them: (i) Importance of emotions; (ii) Awareness of conflict management and negotiation tools - Student is sensitive to stakeholders, teams and communication structure in a pharmaceutical company

Content

This course provides an introduction into a variety of communication fields using mainly examples from the pharmaceutical industry. Openness for self-reflection and participation in communication exercises. Introduction to verbal / nonverbal communication. Presentation skills (Structuring, Body Language, Self Confidence, Language, Visualisation). Presentations including video feedback. Cultures - Methods of classification and comparison. Cross-cultural managers. Convergence English as a global language. Corporate diversity. Introduction to social styles. Introduction to negotiation and conflict management. Principles of non-violent communication. Role plays including video feedback.
