Abstract

The expression of emotions, be it intentionally or not, is among the eldest forms of communication. By facial expression, gesture, tone and posture our emotions are transmitted to others. These facts open a wide fields of social manipulation, where we may play both roles of subject and object.

Objective

The understanding of common processes by which emotions are intentionally generated. Advertising, politics, arts and economics are among those, who use techniques to generate emotions. What can we learn from them and what is the difference, if so, to emotions in science? We will work with texts, in which science is subject of irony to find out how this feeling is generated.

Das Ausdrücken von Gefühlen, sei es beabsichtigt oder nicht, ist vielleicht eine der stammesgeschichtlich ältesten Kommunikationsformen. Über Mimik, Gestik, Tonfall, Körperhaltung und anderes werden unsere Gefühle für andere wahrnehmbar. Zugleich sind wir intuitiv in der Lage, die Gefühlszustände anderer Menschen zu interpretieren. Dies eröffnet auch ein weites Feld sozialer Einflussnahme, in welchem wir immer beides sein können, Manipulierende und Manipulierte. Und vieles, womit wir es im Alltag zu tun haben, ist nicht nur darauf angelegt, eine praktische Aufgabe zu erfüllen, sondern auch – oder zugleich –, uns zu berühren. Gebäude wie Geräte, industrielle Produkte wie künstlerische Werke affizieren uns – um etwas zu erreichen, uns etwas zu verkaufen oder uns für etwas zu gewinnen. Offenbar gibt es ein Wissen, das es erlaubt, Gefühle zu instrumentalisieren und implementieren. Worin besteht dieses Wissen, wer verfügt darüber und wie weit sind wir ihm ausgeliefert?
