Abstract
Mountain forest ecology: practical training
Objective
The participants get an overview on research on the topic mountain forest ecology and management. They learn to define research objectives, to formulate research hypotheses and to set up and carry out a small research project in a team of several students. The participants will learn to write a short research proposal as well as to present research results.
Content
During an excursion in the Swiss Alps (Davos) the participants will gain insight into ongoing research projects in mountain forest ecology. The participants will detect gaps in current knowledge, formulate research hypotheses and define topics for research questions. In small groups they will prepare a proposal for a research project they will carry out during the week. Tutors will assist the groups and supervise the group work. On the last day the participants will present their results. Key qualifications that will be fostered: - Capability to work in groups - Language skills (English) - Oral and written skills in presentation of applied problems and solutions aiming at different target groups.
