Abstract

Introduction into the physics of ice on scales from Molecules to crystals: anomalies of water, polymorphism of ice, structure of hexagonal ice. Fundamental properties of ice: heat capacity, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, optical properties, lattic defects and structure sensitive properties of ice, clathrate hydrates.

Objective

Overview and understanding of the properties of ice in view of its relevance in glaciology
