Abstract

Introduction to research of floral and vegetational history. Overview to Pre-Quaternary development of the plant kingdom (paleobotany). History of flora and vegetation of the Ice Age and the Holocene of Europe, especially of Switzerland. Plant life of the Quaternary warm and cold stages, plant refuges during the Ice Age, Quaternary landscape and climate history. First human impact on vegetation.
