Abstract

The course is a mixture of lectures, formal presentations by students and discussions based on reading of literature. It addresses selected topics in ecosystem ecology such as ‘ecosystems in a changing climate’, ‘biodiversity and ecosystem functioning’, ‘ecological stoichiometry’, and ‘trophic cascades’. Students are welcome to suggest alternative topics.

Objective

The course aims at deepening insights into the selected topics, and practising the ability to lead an informed discussion on and critically evaluate ecological issues. It also aims at showing how we work in ecology and how we approach a topic (how to get an overview).
