Evolutionary biology: field course

Abstract
Experiments and field studies with natural organisms are central for the examination of concepts of ecological and evolutionary research. During the course students develop a scientific question of their choice to a field project, collect the data to address the question, and report their results in a presentation.
Objective
Students should (i) relate their observations to concepts (ii) formulate testable scientific hypotheses , (iii) collect the data to test hypotheses, (iv) analyse the results, and (v) present the results of their projects in a seminar.
Content
Course takes place in Ces during the last week of May. Students work in small groups. Course supervisors provide materials and tutoring during the project development. Basic skills of ecology, taxonomy and statistics are needed. Credits are attained with the written course report (Leistungskontrolle).
