Abstract
Disease Development in Agroecosystems and Disease Control
Objective
An understanding of the processes driving disease development in agroecosystems and how to use this knowledge to achieve sustainable disease control. An understanding of the genetic basis of pathogen-plant interactions and appropriate methods for using resistance to control diseases in agroecosystems.
Content
Tthis course provides an in-depth understanding of the processes driving disease development in agroecosystems, and to develop strategies that can be used to minimize pathogen damage and control disease. The course will take into account epidemiological principles, the effects of host diversity, and the development of boom-and-bust cycles. The genetics of pathogen-plant interactions will be described, considering both quantitative resistance and major gene resistance, as well as the use of molecular markers for identifying and introgressing genetic resistance.
