Abstract
Hydraulic systems, fundamentals in river engineering and natural hazards;main hydraulic structures as dams, intakes, conduits, pipes, open channels, weirs. turbines and locks.
Objective
Comprehensive knowledge of hydraulic systems and of the main hydraulic structures. Ability in designing work and project design due to serviceability, reliability and ecomomic relevance.
Content
Hydraulic systems as storage power plants in alpine regions and river power plants. Economic aspects: cash equivalent method. Weirs and gates, hydraulic calculation. Intakes and sand traps. Open channels and closed conduits, internal and external pressure load, coatings design of pressure tunnels and shafts. Types of dams, spillways, bottom outlets etc. River engineering : flow computation, sediment transport, engineering and environmental measures. Navigations channels and locks. Natural hazards. Exercises in written form, laboratory short course. Field excursions.
