Abstract

The lecture consists of 3 parts: (i) Illustration of the societal and scientific importance of integrative analyses of complex problems in Human-Environment Systems by means of examples like resource management, regional development, mobility; (ii) Theoretical approaches to conceptualize these problems; (iii) Methodological (inter- and transdisciplinary) approaches to analyze these problems.

Objective

The lecture exemplarily presents how Human- Environment Systems can be analyzed in combining natural and social science approaches. In the foreground are systems whose energy and substance flows are crucially affected by men. Introduction of the concept of regulatory mechanisms; combination with basic natural science approaches to Human- Environment Systems.
