Abstract

Theoretical Physics for Mathematicians. The course will mainly cover various aspects of Quantum Mechanics.

Content

Introdution to non-relativistic one-particle quantum mechanics. Schr\"odinger equation, wave mechanics, simple examples. Basic formalism of quantum mechanics, Hilbert space, observable as self-adjoint operators, measurements. Heisenberg's uncertainty relation. Harmonic oscillator. Symmetries in quantum mechanics, projective representations and Wiegner's theorem, representation theory of SU(2). Central force problem, in particular hydrogen atom. Angular momentum, Clebsch Gordon technology, Zeemann effect and spin orbit coupling. EPR paradox, Bell's inequality. Perturbation theory, Heisenberg and interaction picture.
