Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:28:57

Abstract

This course offers an introduction into molecular genetics with fungi by participation in current research projects in the laboratory. Model systems used are Coprinopsis cinerea (a filamentous basidiomycete), Cryptococcus neoformans (a basidiomycetous yeast) and bakers yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Experiments are supported by seminars and literature studies.

Objective

It is the goal of this course to confront the students with specific experimental methods used for experimental studies with fungi. The experiments performed during the course contribute to the understanding of the fungal life. Lectures and the study of the relevant literature will provide additional information enabling the students to answer questions regarding central aspect of the fungal life form at the end of the course.
