Muon Spin Rotation Spectroscopy
Myon-Spin-Rotationsspektroskopie
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:29:43
Abstract
Laboratory Course in Muon Spin Rotation Spectroscopy at the Paul Scherrer Institute
Objective
Perform and analyze a Muon Spin Rotation experiment at a facility beam line at the Paul Scherrer Institute
Content
This practical course allows to learn how a muon spin experiment is performed and analyzed. It gives insight about a modern technique of condensed matter reaserch, which is using data acquisition systems also used in particle physics and makes use of a proton accelerator. An actual problem of condensed matter physics (e.g. investigation of quantum diffusion, or of the vortex state of Type II superconductors) is chosen as an example.
