Crops and Cropping Systems
Last Updated: 2026-02-05 15:28:50
Abstract
The biological requirements for successful and sustainable crops are looked at from biological, agronomical, and the physio-genetic level. Climatic requirements, their status of biological and agronomic adaptation, the range of adaptation with regard to the consistency and quantity of the yield and quality-related aspects of the product.
Objective
At the end of the course the students are able to define and judge the relevant environmental conditions for a successful choice of a crop that is able to succeed in defined agro-climatic situations. This has to be done on an advanced knowledge level of biological characteristics and physiological requirements of a plant species, the subsequent interactions of a crop to environmental conditions and the potential to make genotype-based choices ant to control the development by agronomic measurements.
