Overview on the basics of design and execution of concrete, steel and composite bridges, introduction to the conceptual design process; knowledge of the major construction methods and the function of structural elements.

Content

Historical retrospection. Basics of design: requirements, boundary conditions, feasibility, conceptual objectives. Basics of structural analysis and dimensioning: Concept of dimensioning, structural modelling, bridge girders. Detailing: bearings, joints, drainage, edge detailing, waterproofing and wearing surfaces. Consolidation for girder bridges.
