Calculation of elastic deformations. Discussion of simple statically indeterminate systems. Analysis of bearing systems in architecture: models of calculation for bearing elements and systems. Introduction of the concepts of bearing safety and workability. Issues of loading, stability and safety. Masonry: material-based fundamental technology and dimensioning.
Content
First Semester: Understanding the concepts of forces, the effect of forces and equilibrium. Support and loading of bearing structures and the calculation of the reactions and shear in different statically-determinate systems. The concepts of tension and stiffness. Second Semester: Calculation of elastic deformation. Discussion of simple statically indeterminate systems. Buckling of the compressive member as a simple stability problem. Analysis of bearing systems in architecture: models of calculation for bearing elements and systems. Introduction of the concepts of bearing safety and workability. Issues of loading, stability and safety. Force lines in simple bearing systems. Transferal of loads and possible material solutions. Masonry: material-based fundamental technology and dimensioning. Guidelines for construction and realization.
