Content
The seminar engages in recent and current developments of Swiss urban and spatial planning. The course focuses on the question, what is the futuer for the railway station? Currently this representative symbol of the industrial age undergoes drastic changes. The growing mobility, shiftings in our patterns of life and altered political priorities have altered massively the requirements, chances and potentials of railway stations. Whilst on the one hand a constantly growing amount of stations is being given up or being only scarcely maintained, on the other hand railway stations in city cores develop into 24 hours-malls and event places. The seminar combines inputs from experts with students' field research. Together they result in a workshop that explores the historical, contemporary and future roles of railway stations.
