Abstract
During this course we study the theme of modern city based on about ten different poetic texts (from Praga to Montale), with the intent to illustrate the novel characteristics, both semantic and formal, that mainly influenced the Italian literature on the threshold of the 19th to the 20th century.

I decenni che corrono fra il XIX e XX secolo sono segnati da profondi mutamenti storici, economici e sociali: mutamenti che si manifestano, di riflesso, anche nei movimenti e nelle tendenze culturali di tutta Europa. E la città in via di rapida espansione costituisce uno degli elementi più emblematici di tali trasformazioni, divenendo nel contempo un importante e rinnovato tema letterario. Nel ciclo di lezioni si è studiato appunto il tema della Città attraverso la lettura di una decina di testi poetici (da Emilio Praga a Eugenio Montale), con l'intento di illustrare i tratti innovativi che hanno maggiormente caratterizzato la letteratura italiana fra Otto e Novecento.
