Abstract
Aim, usefulness and theoretical background of methods for sediment analysis.
Objective
The course offers a series of basic methods useful for the analysis of sediments. The aim is to apply these methods on material for the the student's Master or PhD propect.
Content
Staining of thin sections for feldspar and carbonate, peels of carbonate rocks, modal analysis of siliciclastic rocks, calcimetry and organic carbon measurement, heavy mineral analysis, radiography of rock slabs, cathodoluminescence microscopy of carbonate rocks, simple clay mineral separation, exoscopy of quartz grains.
